Baby Basics Buying Guide
Babies don't really need a whole lot in order to care for them. There are certainly plenty of toys, games, tools, and electronics that can make caring for your baby just a little bit better or maybe a little bit easier, but these tend to be things that you want, and are not necessarily things that you need to purchase.
Suggested quantities for baby clothes are flexible depending upon how often you plan on doing laundry. Some items like a diaper bag you may only need to purchase once, but others you may need to buy every few months as your baby grows.
| RECOMMENDED BUYING: BABY CLOTHES & LAYETTE |
| Quantity | Item | Notes |
| 6-10 | Baby Bodysuits | also called onesies, rompers, or one-pieces |
| 5-8 | Sleep N Play | also called baby sleepers, pajamas, or footed sleepers |
| 6-10 | Baby Socks | you'll need to buy these less frequently than other things |
| 1-2 | Baby Booties | you may not need these until baby is old enough to go out without wrapping in a blanket |
| 1-2 | Infant Caps | depending upon weather |
| 5-10 | Baby Bibs | you could do without these, but they protect your baby's clothes |
| RECOMMENDED BUYING: BATHING & DIAPERING |
| Quantity | Item | Notes |
| 1-3 | Hooded Towels | adult towels will work, but hooded towels are easier for swaddling baby and covering a baby's head |
| 4-6 | Baby Washcloths | soft, gentle cloths are best |
| 1 set | Nail Clippers | a baby manicure set works great to help keep baby's nails neatly trimmed |
| 20-30 | Cloth Diapers | disposable diapers are fine too, of course, but either way a newborn will dirty probably 10 or so per day |
| 8-10 | Cloth Wipes | packs of disposable wipes are fine too |
| 1-2 | Diaper Bags | you'll probably only need one, but if you only get one, be sure it has a waterproof changing pad included |
